Emerging from the grid

Untitled, 2017 — linen, cement, acrylic and chalk

Made for Raster – Emerging from the Grid at Experimenter, Kolkata, these works use material, form and the language of architecture to reflect on the built environment. Linen stiffened with cement, acrylic and chalk stands in for walls and grids — the structural formats within which urban life is organised. Segard pushes at the limits of that grid, letting rational calculation and subjective mark blur into one another until the surface seems to emerge from its own scaffolding.
