Of Territories. Mapusa in June
Des territoires — watercolours on paper, Goa

A suite of watercolours made in Mapusa, the market town of North Goa, under the working title des territoires — “of territories”. Painted from and around the town’s shopfronts and signage — the Modern Photo Studio, St Ann’s School — the works hold the ordinary architecture of a Goan street in thin, luminous washes, letting the paper carry the heat and light.
Where Segard’s charcoal drawings press toward darkness, these sheets open into colour: faded façades, hand-painted lettering and green edges of vegetation, recorded with the loose attention of someone mapping a place by walking it.
