Screen prints and charcoal drawings

Shift, 2025 — screen print

Shift runs a set of charcoal drawings of abandoned architecture — silos, stairwells, gutted interiors and boundary walls — through the screen. Each dense graphite surface is photographed, broken down into a halftone, and reprinted as a field of dots, so that the hand-drawn image is re-encoded as mechanical grain. What the charcoal renders as continuous tone the screen returns as pattern: buildings dissolve into moiré, windows drop to flat blanks, and the source photographs surface again beneath the ink. Printed onto raw cloth and found paper, the works hold the two registers — drawing and print, mark and matrix — against each other, tracking what is lost and what is gained as an image shifts from one medium into the next.
